BL B Cluster Reduction Picture Cards

Description

/bl/blend versus /b/ (BL-B) minimal pair initial word position (IWP) cluster reduction picture word cards

Strategies and techniques

Useful for treating cluster reduction of /bl/ to /b/ by increasing phonemic awareness and letter recognition. You may want to start by providing exaggerated instructional model of proper /l/ placement with elongated /l/ (with tongue tip on the alveolar ridge "bump" behind the upper teeth).  Follow with instructional model of elongated /bl/ versus short /b/.  Once your client can point to the /bl/ cluster versus the isolated phoneme /b/, try word level targets. It's recommended to start using 1-2 minimal pair words on a whole sheet to allow your client to point to (identify/discriminate) cluster versus phoneme.  Have your client produce the words on the sheet as you point to them.  As progress is made, target words randomly on the sheet, then cut the cards apart and mix up targets from multiple sheets.
Also useful as articulation cards for IWP /bl/ blend and /b/ targets.
