How to create a multi-payer claim for primary and secondary insurance
When managing billing with multiple insurance providers, it's Important to organize patient insurance information accurately. This ensures seamless processing of claims and efficient reimbursement. Here’s what you need to know:
- To submit a multi-payer claim, ensure that the patient's insurance information is configured correctly in the system: the primary insurance should be listed as billing order 1, and the secondary insurance as billing order 2.
** Please refer to our FAQ section on 'How to Add an Insurance Method and a Credit Card for Patient Responsibility' for detailed instructions on setting up insurance payment methods.
2. Verify that the patient’s insurance information is set up correctly before any treatment (see step 1 above).
3. After a therapist completes and signs a Visit Note or Evaluation and generates the Treatment Report, two patient invoices are automatically generated.
4. The first invoice will be sent for processing by the primary insurance.
5. Upon receiving payment for the first invoice, the second invoice automatically updates. You can then submit the second invoice as a multi-payer claim by selecting 'Prepare Multi-Payer Claim' under ‘Invoice actions’.
Important for Multi-Payer Claims:
- Ensure both insurance providers are set up for the patient before generating treatment reports. Ambiki cannot convert single-payer claims to multi-payer claims later.
- To submit a multi-payer claim, you must create the claim from the beginning as a multi-payer claim.
- If you forget to set up a multi-payer claim initially, the secondary insurance will need to be billed manually outside of Ambiki.
- Going forward, any claims created with both insurance providers set up will automatically be submitted as multi-payer claims.
