Consistent Goal Display with Enhanced Management Controls

Overview
We have made significant improvements to how goals appear and are managed across clinical documents. Goal display is now more consistent and predictable, and organizations have clearer control over both what goals appear and how they can be edited.

What Was Happening
When working with Care Plans, Evaluations, and Discharges, you may have noticed:
Missing goals - Active goals sometimes did not appear when expected
Outdated goals showing - Goals outside the document’s intended timeframe were included
Mismatched statuses - Goal labels or colors occasionally did not reflect the correct clinical period
Inconsistent behavior - The same goal could appear differently depending on document type
These issues were caused by older logic that calculated goal date ranges differently for each document.

What’s Improved

Consistent Goal Display Across All Documents
Goals now follow a single, unified set of rules regardless of whether you are working in a Care Plan, Evaluation, or Discharge. The system consistently shows goals that are relevant to the document’s coverage period.

New: Choose Which Goals Appear (Presentation Override)
You can now manually control which goals appear in the final document output. This allows you to include or exclude specific goals beyond the standard date based rules when clinically appropriate. Permission note: The ability to change which goals are shown is controlled by the Manage Patient Goals permission at the organization level. This permission was added recently and is required to use the presentation override controls.

New: Organization Setting for Goal Editing
Organizations can now control whether goal text values can be edited once a goal becomes active. This setting is managed at the organization level in EMR Settings.

Important upcoming update:
We have received feedback from multiple organizations requesting that this setting also prevent the baseline and target goal percentage values from being edited. That enhancement is planned to be added shortly.

Visit Notes Now Match the Plan of Care
The Plan of Care section in Visit Notes now mirrors the associated Plan of Care exactly, including any custom goal selections made on that Plan of Care.

Scenario | What to Expect
New documents | Goals display accurately and consistently with no action required
Previously signed documents | Some older signed documents may still reflect legacy behavior based on how data was stored at signing
Want to control which goals appear? | Ensure the Manage Patient Goals permission is enabled for the appropriate roles
Want to allow or restrict goal editing? | Organization administrators can adjust this in EMR Settings

No Action Required
All improvements take effect automatically. Your documents will now show goals more reliably without requiring changes to your existing workflow.
